Meet the Musician

Sava Velkoff is a violist passionate about chamber music performance and connecting with the others through music.

Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Sava’s music education was thoroughly nurtured by the community; through Kalamazoo Public School’s K-12 Music Education classes, the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra’s Kids in Tune after-school music program, the Crescendo Academy of Music, and the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestra.

In 2017, she won the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra’s Concerto Competition. Sava also attended Western Michigan University, where she graduated with her Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance in 2022 and was an artist scholar with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra for two seasons. She completed her Master of Music degree in Orchestral Studies in 2024 at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts.

Sava’s mentors include Li-Kuo Chang, Roger Chase, Igor Fedotov, Lawrence Neuman, and Sandra Shaw. Sava is thrilled to be a member of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, a dream of hers since she attended her first KSO concert in 2008.
