Biography
Argentine conductor, composer, violist/violinist and soprano Marisol Gentile was born in the city of Rosario, Argentina.
Gentile has a Master Degree in Composition, Prof of Composition and Technician in Harmony and Counterpoint. Her catalog includes more than 200 works, for solo instruments, chamber groups, symphonic orchestra with and without soloists, and works for a cappella mixed choir and with instrumental accompaniment. Since 2002, she is a member of the SGAE (Sociedad General de Autores y Editores, Spain).
She has obtained the “Creation Stimulus Award” awarded by the SGAE Foundation in 15 occasions. Gentile received the Distinction of the 1st Municipal Prize from Buenos Aires City Government (2016/17), a Composition lifetime Grant. She is a member of the Red de Compositoras Latinoamericanas, UNACOM (Unión Argentina de Compositoras), AAC (Asociación Argentina de Compositores) and FADEC (Foro Argentino de Compositoras de Música). Additionally, she has been the winner of many local and foreign Composition Competitions. In 2022, she was invited by the American Composers Orchestra ACO (USA), selecting her work, by the Oregon Symphony (Portland, USA), from April 17 to 21. In March 2022, the SGAE Foundation selected her project for the release of the CDs “PROLONGACIONES I y II: MONOGRÁFICO MARISOL GENTILE”, sponsoring the financing of her record labels.
In September 2023, Gentile was selected as Argentina’s representative for the “Latin American Music For Violin & Piano,” cycle that took place in New York, USA. She was also invited to give conferences and masterclasses in New York and Philadelphia, from September 29 to October 5, 2023. In July 2024, the Directorate of Cultural Argentine Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, selected her work “Ensueño” for massive broadcast on 1,040 radio stations around the world. This work was chosen through a careful selection of Argentine musicians and their Argentine representations abroad.
She regularly receives commissions for works for different orchestras and groups in various countries in America and Europe, and is also regularly invited to contemporary music festivals as conductor, composer, and speaker, participating in festivals in Argentina, Brazil, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, and the USA. Her discography as a conductor includes more than 500 recordings of American and European works, recorded in world premieres for local and international labels. She has recorded five CDs, conducting the Ensemble Rosario Orchestra, whose material is currently touring various cities around the world. As conductor of this ensemble, she has conducted more than 600 world premieres under her direction.
Marisol is the music director of the “Ensamble Rosario,” Center for Studies for the Diffusion of Contemporary Music, an organization that she founded in 1996. She is also:
