Meet the Musician

Where were you born? Where do you call home now?

Born in Rostov-on-Don, Russia; reside in East Lansing, MI

Where did you study? Who did you study under?

Michigan State University, professor Dmitri Berlinsky

When did you first discover your instrument? How old were you?

When I was 5 years old, we had a music school a few blocks away from my parents’ house. I was curious to learn about the sounds of music that were spilling to the streets. Once, while passing by with my mom I asked her about that and she decided to take me inside right away. She initially wanted to enroll me to the piano lessons, but all the piano studios were full. The violin studio was one of the options, and so my journey started like that, seemingly by chance.

What are your hobbies/interests outside of the music world?

I like chess and poker, as well as music recording and poetry.

Who is a musician/mentor who inspires you? What makes them special?

My late teacher Dmitri Berlinsky and his teacher Mikhail Bezverkhny, both are true philosophers or music, excellent players and artists.

Tell us about your favorite career performance. What made it special?

Playing Ravel’s Tzigane in Blue Lake Arts Camp for the audience of 2,000 children. This audience was truly inspired by our performance.

How did you come to be with the KSO? What is your best memory here?

I won the audition at the end of 2011. My best experience with KSO is being a part of the Youth Concerts, where we play for thousands of kids every season. This program is very unique and I am sure of a great impact it delivers to the community.

Your playlist recap is here…who is your most listened-to artist? (of any genre)
