ARTIST INFORMATION

Meet the Musician

Where were you born? Where do you call home now?

Born and raised in suburban Philadelphia (Ambler); a resident of Kalamazoo since 1979

Where did you study? Who did you study under?

Bachelor of Music from Susquehanna University; Master of Music from Western Michigan University, where I studied horn with Neill Sanders

When did you first discover your instrument? How old were you?

I began piano lesson at age seven, then when band instruments became an option in fifth grade, I really wanted to play flute or clarinet (like my friends at the time). The band director and my parents persuaded me to try the horn instead, and I’ve always been grateful for their intervention!

What are your hobbies/interests?

Most of my current activity is within the musical world: teaching at the Crescendo Academy of Music and Kalamazoo College, servicing on the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony board, and doing some other behind-the-scenes volunteer work in the arts community.

Who is a musician/mentor who inspires you? What makes them special?

At this stage of the game, there are too many to list! I’ll always owe a debt of gratitude to friends and colleagues from WMU’s School of Music and the KSO for the years of support, inspiration and opportunities.
