Biography

Selkie offers a journey through Celtic soundscapes—both familiar and newly imagined—with stories, laughter, and moments of quiet beauty informed by the Irish folk tradition. Their style has evolved to blend mood-lifting traditional dance sets with close-harmony songs sung in English, Gaelic, and French. Jim Spalink, Michele Venegas, Cara Lieurance, and Noah Jacobs, all leading multi-instrumentalists in West Michigan’s folk and Celtic music scene, formed Selkie in 2019.

Selkie members Jim Spalink, Michele Venegas, and Cara Lieurance have also performed with Michigan-based Celtic bands An Dro, Fonn Mohr, Archive, Merry Sisters of Fate, Amadaun, and Whiskey Before Breakfast. The trio bonded through previous musical projects and a love of sharing Celtic music with others.

Cara Lieurance also co-hosts “The Pure Drop” on WMUK, sharing tunes from Ireland and elsewhere every Sunday at 3 p.m.
