KSO Welcomes Anne Akiko Meyers, J'Nai Bridges and Music Director Candidate, Stilian Kirov, to Miller for a Celebration of Leonard Bernstein's 100th on March 24th

Kalamazoo, MI March 6, 2018 – The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra with guest conductor and Music Director Candidate, Stilian Kirov, present a celebration of Leonard Bernstein. Anne Akiko Meyers performs his Serenade and Mezzo-soprano, J’Nai Bridges, is featured in his 1st Symphony, “Jeremiah.”

KSO Welcomes Third Music Director Candidate, Andrew Grams & Award-winning Cellist, Pablo Ferrández-Castro for Haydn & Beethoven program February 24th at Chenery

Kalamazoo MI, February 8, 2018 - The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra with guest conductor and Music Director Candidate, Andrew Grams, present an intimate program of masterworks from the First Viennese School (Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven). The orchestra opens with Mozart’s Magic Flute Overture. Pablo Ferrández-Castro, an international rising star, performs Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in C Major. Maestro Grams concludes the program with Beethoven's exhilarating Symphony No. 7.

Kalamazoo, MI January 22, 2018 – The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra presents the final Family Discovery concert of the 2017-18 season, once again in collaboration with Classical Kids LIVE!.  The KSO’s Family Discover Series concerts feature symphonic performances specially tailored to young children and their families. Tickets are only $5 each and include preconcert activities for the family!

Kalamazoo, MI January 10, 2018 – The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra presents the first two concert pairings in its popular chamber series—Classics Uncorked and Classics On Tap. KSO’s classics concerts feature an evening of chamber music favorites played by smaller ensembles of orchestra musicians. The concerts in the KSO’s Classics Series allow patrons to become better acquainted with classical music and KSO musicians in a more social and relaxed atmosphere.

Kalamazoo, MI November 27, 2017 – The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra is proud to present this year’s Sounds of the Season concert, Music from The Movies with Sara Andon, including music from your favorite holiday movies: The Polar Express, Frozen, Elf, It’s A Wonderful Life and many more. With KSO Resident Conductor/Interim Music Director, Daniel Brier, at the podium the concert will feature international flute soloist and recording artist, Sara Andon, along with the Kalamazoo Children’s Chorus, directed by Fred Sang.

Kalamazoo, MI November 6, 2017 –  Each year, advanced student performers audition for the opportunity to take the stage as a soloist with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra is honored to announce their 2017 Youth Soloist Competition Winner, violist, Sava Velkoff, and Runner Up, vocalist, Alex Smith, both students of Loy Norrix High School. Cellist, Lydia Schubkegel (Senior Home School), was also given Honorable Mention.

Kalamazoo, MI October 27, 2017 – The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, with guest conductor & Music Director Candidate, Edwin Outwater, presents a program of symphonic masterpieces by Brahms and Rachmaninoff. Anna Vinnitskaya, winner of the 2007 Queen Elisabeth Contest, solos with Rachmaninoff’s brilliant Piano Concerto No. 3—a piece ideally suited to her interpretive gifts. Maestro Outwater rounds out the program with Brahms pastoral Symphony No. 2.

This California based quartet, are not only one of the most sensational and timeless groups of the 1990’s, they have sold more than 20 million records worldwide and their success has spanned two decades.  The evening’s program will be announced from stage.

Kalamazoo, MI October 12, 2017 – The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra with guest conductor Donato Cabrera, presents a delightfully varied program for the second concert of its Symphonic Series, on Saturday, October 28, 2017. Gabriel Renteria-Elyea, the KSO’s own Principal Oboist, solos in John Williams' Oboe concerto. William McGregor, 2017 Stulberg International String Competition Gold Medalist, performs Bottesini’s second bass concerto. Maestro Cabrera opens the program with Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man and closes the program with Bruckner’s first masterpiece, the youthful Symphony No. 1.
