From Canvas to Composition

The idea for Thea Musgrave's compelling composition The Seasons was sparked during a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. As Musgrave toured the various artwork, she saw the images as related to the four seasons or cycles in a person's life.
The first work Thea focused on, Piero di Cosimo's Caccia Primitiva, became the embodiment of Autumn—a grim battle with the brooding colors of an approaching storm. Other artwork soon followed, including Emanuel Leutze's Washington Crossing the Delaware (Winter), Vincent van Gogh's The Sower (Spring), and Claude Monet's Rue St-Denis, Festivities of June 30, 1878 (Summer).
